Inglorious Basterds (2009)
Well it's certainly a Tarantino film. Well made, great style and certainly quirky. Sometimes I find his films a bit too much full of themselves, but I still enjoyed it and there's never a dull moment and plenty of black humour mixed in with a very some serious events.
He has a definite mastery and love of his craft which comes across in both the cinematography and also how he sets up scenes and I have to admire that even if the content sometimes isn't to my taste. The "bar" scene is sheer class, with a feeling of claustrophobia adding to the tension of the encounter. Without giving the ending away, once you do see the scene, do a quick straw poll with your friends/colleagues and you'll see it's a very astute observation of cultural differences. If you don't like his other work you probably won't much like this either, but if you're a fan then go for it. As a neutral I'd say watch it, but it's a bit of a Marmite film and not for everyone. I enjoyed it.3.5/5
